Biography of Dr. Walter H. Delashmit

Dr. Walter H. Delashmit was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1944. He received the B.S. degree from Christian Brothers University in Electrical Engineering in 1966 and the MS degree from the University of Tennessee in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics in 1968. He graduated with the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington in Spring 2003. 

Dr. Delashmit retired from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in January 2007 after 25 years at Lockheed Martin and 39 years in the aerospace industry. He is presently doing part-time consulting with the Neural Decision Lab, LLC (NDL), the Image Processing and Neural Network Laboratory (IPNNL) and the Georgetown Rail Equipment Company. The consulting work is in the area of neural networks, image processing and signal processing. He also reviews technical papers on a regular basis for journals and conferences and does substitute teaching at the University of Texas at Arlington.

While employed at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (formerly Loral Vought Systems and LTV Aerospace and Defense) in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Delashmit was a Principal Staff Research Engineer. As part of his duties he was the Program Manager/Principal Investigator for the Seeker Technology and Software Improvement Program, the Weapon Seeker Improvement Program and the Manager of the Signal and Image Processing Group. Previously, he was the Principal Investigator for the Lockheed Martin effort on the ARPA Autonomous Systems Technology Program. All of these programs involve the usage of advanced image processing techniques for real time system applications.

Prior to his employment at Lockheed Martin, Dr. Delashmit was a member of the research staff at the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) from 1976-1982, a Senior Engineer at Martin Marietta Aerospace in Orlando, FL from 1972-1976, and a member of the Technical Staff at TRW Systems in Houston, Texas from 1969-1972. He has authored several technical publications and has received several awards and letters of commendation for his technical and managerial work at these places of employment. He is Senior Member of the IEEE, a member of Tau Beta Pi and a member Eta Kappa Nu. In addition, he was previously involved in Local IEEE Section activities while employed by Martin Marietta.

His research interests are in the areas of neural networks, two and three-dimensional image processing and signal processing techniques.
