Biography of Wei Gong

Wei Gong was born in Nanchang, China in 1958. In 1982, she earned the B.S. in Electrical Engineering at the Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Engineering. In 1989 and 1991 respectively, she received the M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. From 1982 through 1985, she worked as an engineer at the Research Institute of Nanjing. From 1985 through 1987, she was an instructor in the Computer Information Department at Jiaxi University of Economic Management, where she taught microcomputers, computer languages and technical English. From 1987 through 1991, she was a research & teaching assistant in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). At UTA, she performed research in digital image and signal processing, and neural network applications. She also graded graduate and undergraduate courses in linear systems and signal processing. From 1991 to 1995, she was a Senior Research Associate in the Nuclear Medicine Center at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. There, she performed research in three-dimensional medical image registration, SPECT brain image processing, statistical analyses of medical images, and development of graphical user interfaces in X Windows for these algorithms. Starting in 1995, Dr. Gong optimized Optical Character Recogniton software for Electrocom Automation in Arlington, TX. Dr. Gong has been working at Alcon Labs in Fort Worth Texas since 1997. Dr.Gong is a member of Tau Beta Pi, HKN, and the IEEE. She has published over 20 papers, and has consulted in the areas of statistical signal processing, image coding, and HDTV. Her current interests include medical image processing, data compression, computer vision and the applications of neural networks in these areas.
