UT Arlington has been selected as one of the
nine universities worldwide to compete in the upcoming
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers’
International Future Energy Challenge. Other competitors
include familiar names such as Texas A&M, the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, Virginia Tech and RWTH-Aachen (The Aachen
University of Technology). A team of 15 undergraduate
students under supervision of Electrical Engineering
Assistant Professor Babak Fahimi has been assembled to
compete in this event. Organized by IEEE Power Electronics
Society and the Power Sources Manufacturers Association, the
event is the most prestigious student competition sponsored
by the IEEE. The teams’ challenge is the design and
implementation of a universal, high efficiency and adaptive
battery charger system for vehicular and domestic
application. The UT Arlington team will conduct all their
design and development efforts in the Power Electronics and
Controlled Motion Laboratory located in the College of
Engineering’s Energy System Research Center.
